Forest Research Institute:
Forest Research Institute was founded as Imperial Forest Research in the
year 1906. The institute functions under Indian Council of Forestry
Research and Education. The architecture of the building is unique as it
flaunts the Greco-Roman style. The building has achieved the status of
National Heritage. It is spread across an area of 450 hectares and faces
the Himalayas. The lush greenery around the building only adds to the
beauty of the place. The institute came up with the aim to set up a
research base in forestry for regions of Western Uttar Pradesh, Delhi,
Punjab and Chandigarh. |
Sahasradhara:
If you are waiting to have some fun in Dehradun, Sahasradhara is the
place for you. It’s a picnic spot, which is a must visit. The place
attracts with sparkling springs flowing down the hills along with Baldi
River. The place is about 11 kilometers from Dehradun. Waterfalls and

national park are a major highlight of the place. Rajaji National Park
came up in the year 1983. It was formed along with three distinct
sanctuaries; Chillaand, Rajaji and Motichur. The park derived its name
from the famous freedom fighter Late Sri C Rajgopalachari. The area is
covered by Sal Forest, Khair-Sissoo forest and neighbored by Western
Gangetic plains. |
Tapovan:
Lying on the banks of the holy Ganga river, Tapovan holds a great
importance for tourists to Dehradun. This is known to be the penance
ground for the famous saint Dronacharya. This area is now a holy ground
for several saints and sages who take part in ceremonial activities and
religious practices. |
Buddha Temple Dehradun:
The Buddha temple
situated in Clement town area is famous for its beautiful design and
interiors which depicts the ancient architecture of Tibet. It also has a
very beautiful garden where one can sit in peace and meditate. |
Lachhiwala Dehradun:
Lachhiwala is a famous picnic spot with a fresh river water pool to have
bath and a park with all sorts of swings here. Its a great place of

Shiv Mandir Mussoorie Dehradun:
Situated along the way to Mussoorie is the famous Shiv temple that is
visited by a number of tourists all round the year. The enchanting

Indian Military Academy:is
located at 8 Km on Dehradun-Chakrata road. It is adjacent to Forest
Research Institute, another premier institute of the country. The
majestic main building of the Indian Military Academy is a sight to
behold. The well maintained campus of IMA with nicely done up gardens
and training fields reek of sheer class and high standards of discipline
that the institute upholds.

Guru Ram Rai Gurudwara:
boasts of a legend
behind the construction of it. It says that Guru Ram Rai was thrown away
from his native place, settled down at the valley and constructed this
shrine
This gurudwara houses all the features of a typical Sikh shrine. The
most holy book Adigrantha adorns the center of the shrine. Other
important places include places like the large dining room where meals
are served to all at free of cost and the free utility rooms. Like all
other Gurudwaras, here also all are welcomed to offer their prayers
irrespective of their caste and creed.
The serene and tranquil ambiance of this shrine would be clothed with a
festive mood at the annual festival of Jhanda mela or the celebration of
flags, which is held after holi. |
